Oasis & palm

Since olden days, the Oasis - this Island of greenery in the middle of the desert - has been the safe haven of the Sahara populations and their place of living where they planted palm trees to live on and seek protection from sands and heat of the desert.
In Tunisia, a Mediterranean country where great civilizations followed powerful empires for three millennia, the Oasis has always been the icon of this legacy, indeed, in the south of Tunisia, where the Sahara starts, the Oases have been grown since the Roman era.
In southern Tunisia, millions of date palms are grown around Chott El Jerid (a dried up inland sea) mainly in the famous oasis of Tozeur and Nafta. The date palm is a magnificent tree that rises to several tens of meters and produces at the end of the fall its famous exotic fruit:
the date.
